Pineapple, also known as wild pineapple, wood pineapple… is a small tree, 1 – 2m high. The stem has long secondary roots. The leaves grow concentrated at the top, narrow, hard strips, with hard thorns on the edges and midrib. The inflorescence consists of male and female flowers.

Many parts of the pineapple plant are used as medicine according to folk experience:

Pineapple roots: harvested year-round. The younger the roots that have not yet attached to the ground are better, dig them up, wash them, slice them thinly, and dry them. When using, take 8g of roots (grilled) combined with the bark of the tree (roasted until golden), si roots, young areca roots, basil, perilla, and patchouli, each 8g; 12g of Magnolia bark; finely chopped; boiled with 400ml of water until 100ml remains, drink twice, to treat edema.

Treatment of frequent urination, little urination, cloudy yellow urine, kidney edema: 200g of pineapple root, 150g of corn silk, 50g of lemongrass, 50g of glutinous rice husk (roasted until fragrant), 25g of bamboo shoots, 25g of licorice root. Boil all with 2 liters of water for 30 minutes, filter, add sugar, drink during the day. Adults take 200 – 300ml each time; children depending on age, 100 – 150ml. 2 – 3 times a day. One course of treatment is 5 days. Rest for 3 days, then continue with another course until completely cured.

To treat sand and gravel in urine, take 20g of pineapple root, Chinese clematis root, Chinese clematis root, and rehmannia root, cut into small pieces, and boil to drink 3-5 times a day with 10g of talcum powder.

For external use: pineapple root (young root), young neem leaves, mugwort, dodder, kapok bark, turmeric root, a small handful of each, crushed, mixed with egg white, applied as a medicine to bandage broken bones and treat hemorrhoids.

Young shoots: harvested in spring, used fresh or dried, used in the following cases:

To treat kidney stones: young shoots, pineapple 20g, mugwort 20g, cylindrical grass 30g, rock sugar 10g, all washed, chopped, crushed, added water and filtered to drink.

To treat frequent urination, painful urination with blood: young pineapple shoots 20g, ginger grass root sprouts 20g. Boil and drink during the day.

Cure epilepsy in children: 12g young pineapple shoots, 8g each of tamarind leaves, river bone leaves, jackfruit buds, and Eclipta prostrata, 5 peach seeds. Crush all of them and mix with a cup of boiled water, let it cool, filter the clear liquid, add a little sugar, and drink every 2 hours. Drink one teaspoon for each age.

For external use: young pineapple shoots, crushed with clove leaves, apply to treat boils very well.

Pineapple: use fresh or dried.

Cure cirrhosis with ascites: 200g pineapple fruit, 200g rây gai tree stem, 50g of water fern bark, bark of vong cach tree, tram bau leaves, coi xay leaves, and scratch grass roots. You can add 50g of borax grass or 50g of cogon grass. Chop all, dry, boil with 400ml of water, reduce to 100ml, drink twice a day…

To treat chronic hepatitis: 100g of prickly pineapple, 50g of sawtooth dogwood, boil and drink one dose per day.
